National Science Day 2026: SanDi Takes Second Prize at Anna University
Co-founders Swetha Suresh and Sree Narayanea K secure Second Prize at Anna University's National Science Day Science & Tech Event for the SanDi Smart Sanitary Napkin and Diaper Disposal System.

Celebrating National Science Day with Sustainable Engineering
On the occasion of National Science Day, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Easwari Engineering College achieved a celebrated milestone: student innovators Swetha Suresh and Sree Narayanea K secured the Second Prize (Silver) at the state-wide Science & Tech Event hosted by Anna University, Chennai.
Presenting “SANDI” to Academic Evaluators
The duo presented their project: “SANDI – Smart Sanitary Napkin and Diaper Disposal System.” The presentation covered extensive laboratory validation and technical demonstrations:
- •Pyrolytic Thermal Processing: Breaking down non-biodegradable polymeric layers into harmless sterile mineral ash in minutes.
- •Microprocessor Automation: Integrated sensor arrays that manage chamber temperatures, door hermetic locks, and exhaust airflow.
- •Hygiene Protection: Hands-free opening mechanisms that prevent bacteria transmission in public washrooms.
A Critical Stepping Stone
Winning second place at Anna University's National Science Day was a foundational catalyst for the co-founders. The encouraging critique from senior professors and materials scientists validated their thermal degradation methodology and paved the way for subsequent grant awards and campus incubation at RSRIF.
Org & Aura continues to build upon this scientific foundation, honoring the spirit of National Science Day by directing engineering intellect toward planetary health.
