A Four-Year Journey from Student Innovator to Founder

What does it take to move from student engineering coursework to launching a hardware startup? In an inspiring student feature shared by Easwari Engineering College, Swetha Suresh, Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), shares her journey of grit, innovation, and purpose.

The Spark: Recognizing the Sanitary Waste Crisis

During her biomedical engineering studies, Swetha recognized an invisible ecological disaster: conventional disposable diapers and sanitary napkins take between 450 to 500 years to decompose in landfills. In healthcare settings and academic campuses, improper sanitary disposal leads to clogged sewage networks, custodial hazards, and unchecked bacterial proliferation.

Rather than accepting centralized hauling as inevitable, Swetha asked: *Can we eliminate biological waste immediately at the moment of disposal, cleanly and without smoke or odor?*

The Hackathon Crucible

Swetha’s journey was accelerated through national competitions and engineering hackathons: - Competing in high-pressure hackathons across India pushed the boundaries of rapid hardware prototyping. - Bridging microcontrollers, thermal heaters, and air filtration into a compact physical appliance required countless laboratory iterations. - Each competition provided critical feedback from industrial judges, refining the product architecture that would become The SanDi Machine.

Building Org & Aura

Founding Org & Aura alongside co-founder Sree Narayanea K and a dedicated team of engineers, Swetha has turned vision into physical reality. Today, the startup is backed by campus seed funding, recognized at national tech conclaves, and actively piloting units.

"Opportunities, innovation, and perseverance shaped my path from a student innovator into an entrepreneur. When you build technology with genuine social impact, the challenges become milestones."
